It's true - America, the land of democracy, is the bastion of entrepreneurship. There is little to no entrepreneurship under most other forms of government. Socialism? Communism? Totalitarianism? Marxism? - nope, nope, no, and not a chance. The ability to build and idea into a business, sell at your own price, and win or lose in an open marketplace are pretty much unique to a free society.
So I thought that in celebration of the 4th of July, I'd list why I, an entrepreneur, am thankful for living in a free country:
1. We have the freedom to pursue the education, careers, hobbies, and passtimes of our own choosing.
2. We have the freedom to associate and go into business with anyone we choose
3. We have the freedom to communicate and share ideas, challenge the status quo, and push for change if every aspect of our society
4. We have the freedom to start a business of our own choosing, anytime, anywhere
5. We have the freedom to build products and services without inappropriate government approval
6. We have the freedom to hire (and sometimes fire) whomever we want
7. We have the freedom to live and work anywhere in this great country
8. We have the freedom to succeed - coupled with the freedom to fail
8. We have the freedom to enjoy the economic fruits of our labors
10. We have the freedom to take our success and turn around to do good works and volunteer our time and money as we see fit
As you can see, these freedoms are all at the foundation of entrepreneurship, and that's what makes this country great. I'm sure I missed some other freedoms that we enjoy - so help me out here - what are you thankful for this 4th of July?
