contextual ads that are relevant to someone's individual interest.
These technologies have progressed to a level that the less informed
find surprising. Is there a backlash coming?

Is EMI waiving the white flag on digital rights protection? Or, is there something else going on here -- a recognition that you are better off getting compensated for initial distribution at a higher price, by giving consumers something of value. And, what about Apple. What is in it for them?

There seems to be an understanding that if you are large enough to control some part of the chain of distribution, and you can capture revenue by virtue of your location in the network, then you will be better off not trying to combat the impossible to manage -- i.e., free transfer of digitally perfect files among consumers. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds, and how it affects the efforts of other content providers who are still focused on protection themselves against unauthorized downstream distribution.

<trackback:ping>http://www.amplifiernetwork.com/DesktopModules/DnnForge%20-%20NewsArticles/Tracking/Trackback.aspx?ArticleID=213&PortalID=0&TabID=171</trackback:ping>
Venture Hacks — An entrepreneur’s guide to hacking venture capital since Persian calendar year 1386

[Source link: http://www.venturehacks.com/]Here is a site that is written by some Silicon Valley Entrepreneurs that purports to give guidance on venture capital terms. Does this reveal a lessening of the impact of Windows, or the growing impact of download sales?Much has been written about Microsoft's "failed" launch of Vista. I think that the larger reason is that there is a maturing of consumers, and they have learned that purchasing a "new" operating system exposes them to hardware capatability issues, and bugs. The more meaningful comparison will be the 12 month data, in my view.

That being said, the issues with the Vista launch show the difficulty of being a dominant player, but having to support mutiple hardware and software configurations. Comparisions with Apple's launches of its versions of OS X, or Google's activities in hosted corporate software, are interesting but not necessarily instructive.
